People don’t pop out of the womb either positive or negative- It comes with past experiences, beliefs and how you choose to think about a situation.
I used to be quite a pessimist. I grew up surrounding myself with them- I’m sure you have heard the saying ‘ You become who you surround yourself with’.
I presumed it was better to talk about my flaws, because who loves themselves? No matter how good my day had been, I would first share the bad parts. I would exaggerate my worries and I allowed negativity to take over my thoughts daily.
It took almost losing my life to Anorexia, for me to realize that living in the darkness of my negatives fueled mind wasn’t the life I wanted to live; So I decided to make a change for the better.
You can’t just wake up one day and tell yourself ‘I am now positive’. You have to train yourself every day. Just like you train your muscles at the gym- you need to train your mind.
You’re now probably asking ‘how do I do it?’.
When I was browsing a little boutique shop in Manchester, I came across a very special book – ‘Happiness Planner’. After months of over complicating the steps to become more positive, this book nailed it with 10 simple rules.
So, here are The 10 Rules to live by for those who wish to live a positive life.
Be comfortable in your own skin
Appreciate what you have and never compare yourself to others
See the positive in every situation
Let go of you need to control
Drop the resentment
Live in the moment
Avoid over analyzing
Stop worrying about the future
Drop your ego and be true
Have an open mind
When its broken down like that, how easy does it seem?
Now don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to implement all of them at once. Pick out the one which really jumps out at you and works on that one for the next couple of months. Once you feel like you’ve nailed that one, move onto the next.
A Healthy and positive mind takes time and practice. You got this.
